We’re now well into 2014 – where did the last three months go?! – and it’s a good time to check on whether or not we’re doing what we said we’d do.
You may remember that I decided this year to go for one theme, one word, instead of a long list of resolutions. That one word was FOLLOW-THROUGH (or is that two words?). Not just making and re-making decisions but sticking with the decisions I’ve made and seeing them through to the end.
So how am I doing?
Well, the biggest bit of follow-through I’ve done is on my decision to go independent. Back in January, I was still being tempted by full-time roles that represented great opportunities… but that weren’t in line with the decision that I had, already, made to go solo. I finally put that stake in the ground and officially incorporated my consulting business on 11th February.
For £15 I now had a limited company registered at Companies House in London. After that, I registered for VAT, secured the domain name and all the social media handles, briefed a designer to create a logo, and started planning how to position my services on my website. Today, my website is live and I’ve hit the ground running with a couple of great projects and more on the horizon. And I’ve connected with an amazing network of people who are doing a whole range of exciting things.
I think I’ve done quite well in other areas too. I’ve been reading a lot more – 14 books so far, mainly business books and memoirs for now – thanks to my goal to read a book a week. I’ve been doing yoga regularly, at home and most recently over the last couple weeks I’ve gone five times to a Bikram (hot yoga) studio. I’ve been sticking to my blog post schedule of Tuesdays and Fridays. I’ve transferred about a gazillion of our old VHS cassettes onto a hard drive, a good 50 years or so after VHS ceased to exist. And, based purely on anecdotal evidence, I feel like I’ve been better at moving ahead with ideas I’ve had, booking flights, meeting up with people, making those calls. Yay me.
Diet and exercise beyond the yoga has not been so successful, unfortunately, and I’m still carrying that extra weight that I gained from my fabulous “get fat with Anna” diet. And, as ever, I have a list of a million things I want to do, or feel I should do, which, even without the “Resolutions” label, still weigh on my mind.
How are you doing on your theme of 2014? Or your resolutions if you stuck with the old-school approach?
Hakuna matata if you haven’t been as successful as you had hoped, there are still another nine months to go…!
