As much as there is more to success than money, financial freedom is absolutely key to a successful business and a comfortable lifestyle. The last thing you want is to become one of the many struggling freelancers or hustling entrepreneurs with failed businesses (not to mention failed health and relationships!). And that means that you need sales – and clients!

The 5 pillars scorecard consists of 50 statements that will help you discover where you are on each pillar, give you an indication of specific areas to focus on, and offer you clear next steps for how to improve your score.
So as much as I talk about reimagining ‘success’, and getting the fundamentals in place, defining your strategy, working on your mindset… client generation needs to be a focus in your business.
I know that this is a hot topic for many of you, and an urgent need. Even when you’ve succeeded in establishing your business, you’ve got all the basics in place and you have been making some sales, things take longer than you realise, and you may not be making enough to replace your previous (or current) full-time salary. You’re relying on passive tactics such as word of mouth to get clients and you’re not generating that steady flow of clients that will give you a reliable income stream.
So how do you generate clients?
In order to have a sustainable business that allows you to live and work according to your own definition of success, you need to be consistently attracting the right kinds of clients who value you work and are willing and able to pay you for it. (In fact, maybe I should have called the challenge the Client Attraction Boot Camp as you’re not creating clients out of thin air here but attracting clients to you and your offer.)
That means knowing who those ‘right kinds of clients’ are; it means being able to package and position yourself and your services in a way that demonstrates your value in a crowded market; and it means communicating that clearly with a proactive marketing plan that will get you in front of the right people at the right time.
You may well be ‘busy’ all the time but that doesn’t mean that you’re focusing on the right things and, if you’re not, you may well be creating problems for yourself in the future as you get stuck in a constant cycle of chasing clients and scrambling for more sales.
